Great Gate, card payment, and the electric shuttle
The main entrance to the Giza Plateau has been the Great Gate on the desert road between Cairo and Fayoum since 2025; the old gate at Mena House has been replaced. The ticket office there closes one hour before the end of opening hours, and payment is cashless only. Private vehicles remain outside the plateau; an electric shuttle runs between the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure, the Panorama Point, and the Sphinx. The plateau's opening hours are given as 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with an older official version stating 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Sphinx Gate is open but has no ticket counter. The Egyptian Museum opens daily at 9:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM; its ticket counter closes at 4:00 PM.
