At the Gate: Opening Hours, Card Payment, and Electric Shuttle
The ticket counter closes one hour before the site closes; payment there is by card only, not cash. The official website lists the plateau as open from 8 am to 4 pm, while an official PDF from 2020 lists 7 am to 5 pm. Since 2025, the main entrance is the Great Gate on the desert road between Cairo and Fayoum; the Sphinx Gate remains open but has no ticket counter. Private vehicles are no longer allowed onto the plateau since the 2025 reorganization; visitors take the electric shuttle or walk. The shuttle is included in the site ticket and stops at the three pyramids, the panorama point, and the Sphinx.
