At the Gate: Card Payment, Ticket Office Closing, and Shuttle Instead of Private Cars
The opening hours of the plateau are not clear: the official website states 8 am to 4 pm, an official PDF from 2020 states 7 am to 5 pm. The ticket office closes one hour before the respective closing time. Payment at the counter is by card only, not cash. Since 2025, the main entrance is the Great Gate on the desert road between Cairo and Fayoum; private vehicles are no longer allowed onto the plateau. An electric shuttle takes visitors to the three pyramids, the panorama point, and the Great Sphinx.
