At the Gate: Map, Electric Shuttle, One Hour Lead Time
The main entrance to the Giza Plateau has been called the Great Gate since 2025, located on the Cairo-Fayoum desert road. The old access at the Mena House has been replaced; the Sphinx Gate remains open but has no ticket counter. Payment at the counter is by card only, not cash. Private vehicles are no longer allowed on the plateau since 2025; electric shuttles run between Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure, the Panorama Point, and the Sphinx. The ticket counter closes one hour before the gate closes. The official website states 08:00 to 16:00, an older source says 07:00 to 17:00; plan for the buffer.
For Whom the Long Day Is Right and When It Isn't
This tour is right for travelers who want to visit the Giza Plateau and the Egyptian Museum in one go and appreciate an organized itinerary. The provider lists the tour as wheelchair accessible. It is expressly not suitable for those who only want to see the pyramids and the Sphinx and don't want to plan ten hours for that.
