At the Great Gate: card instead of cash, shuttle instead of private car
Since the reorganization in 2025, the main entrance to the Giza Plateau is the Great Gate on the Cairo–Fayoum desert road; the old gate at Mena House has been replaced. The Sphinx Gate remains open but has no ticket counter. Payment at the counter is by card only, not cash. The official website lists opening hours from 8 am to 4 pm; an official PDF from 2020 lists 7 am to 5 pm. The ticket counter closes one hour before the gate closes. Private vehicles are not allowed onto the plateau; instead, an electric shuttle runs between the stops: Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure, Panorama Point, and the Sphinx. The shuttle is included in the site ticket.
