At the Gate: Card Payment, Great Gate, and Electric Shuttle
Since 2025, the plateau is reached through the Great Gate on the desert road from Cairo to Fayoum. The ticket office closes one hour before the gate closes, and payment is by card only. The opening hours are given as 8 am to 4 pm; an older official figure is 7 am to 5 pm. Private vehicles have not been allowed since the reorganization in 2025. The electric shuttle then stops at the designated stops: Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure, Panorama Point, and the Sphinx; the ride is included in the site ticket. The Sphinx Gate remains open but has no ticket office.
Who the short camel ride suits and who should choose a different tour
This tour is right for you if you are looking for a compact, inexpensive ride on the Giza Plateau and are willing to take the group as it comes. It is explicitly not suitable if you want to travel privately or in a small group: neither a private booking nor a small group booking is available. The "Private Tour to Pyramids and Great Sphinx with Camel Ride" lasts four to eight hours and costs from 51 euros; however, it is not listed as a German-speaking tour. Egypt Excursions Online says nothing about wheelchair accessibility; if you rely on it, ask before booking.
