Start in Giza, destination: the plateau with the pyramids
You start in the city area of Giza. The drive to the plateau is short: about twelve kilometers and roughly fifteen minutes. Before you lie the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the viewpoints in between. Three and a half hours are allotted for this walk. You will see the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest of the three, from the outside. The Pyramid of Khafre, the middle one, still has its casing at the top; the Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest, is clad in granite from Aswan on its lower courses. The valley temple of the Pyramid of Khafre is the shadiest spot on the site. The Great Sphinx is carved from the bedrock, not built; you stand on the terrace above it, not beside its paws.

Ticket office closing, card payment, and getting to the plateau
The official website lists opening hours as 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; an older official source differs with 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The ticket office closes one hour before the site closes. Payment at the counter is card only, not cash; cashless sales have been in effect since 2023. Cash is still useful for small expenses. Private vehicles have not been allowed onto the plateau since 2025. Since the 2025 reorganization, the main entrance is the Great Gate on the Cairo-Fayoum desert road; the Sphinx Gate remains open but has no ticket counter. The site ticket includes the electric shuttle that runs between the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure, the panorama point, and the Sphinx.
Who this is for, and who it's not for
This tour works if you're in Giza, are comfortable with a driver as your companion, and want to spend a manageable half-day on the plateau. It is explicitly not suitable if you expect a German-speaking guide; Blue Sky Holidays does not indicate one.
