What applies at the gate since 2025
Since the 2025 reorganization, the following applies at the entrance: Private vehicles are no longer allowed onto the plateau. You reach the site via the electric shuttle, whose ride is included in the site ticket, or on foot. The main entrance is the Great Gate on the desert road from Cairo to Fayoum. The opening hours are not clear: the official website states 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., an official PDF from 2020 states 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ticket counter closes one hour before the gate closes, and payment at the counter is only by card, not cash. Cash remains necessary for tips and small purchases.
