At the Great Gate: opening hours, card payment, and shuttle
The main entrance to the plateau has been the Great Gate on the desert road between Cairo and Fayoum since 2025; the Sphinx Gate is open but has no ticket office. The official website lists opening hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while an official PDF from 2020 deviates, stating 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In any case, the ticket office closes one hour before the site. Payment at the counter is by card only, not cash. Private vehicles have not been allowed on the plateau since the 2025 reorganisation.
