Ticket counters, card payment, and shuttle on the plateau
At the gate to the plateau, fixed rules apply. The official website lists opening hours from 08:00 to 16:00; a second official source states 07:00 to 17:00. What is certain is that the ticket counter closes one hour before the gate closes. Payment at the counter is by card only; cash is not accepted. Private vehicles have not been allowed on the plateau since 2025. If you don't walk, you use the electric shuttle; its ride is included in the entrance fee. The main entrance has been the Great Gate on the desert road from Cairo to Fayoum since 2025; the old gate at the Mena House has been replaced. The Sphinx Gate is open but has no ticket counter.
Who should take this tour and who shouldn't
This tour is the right choice if English, Spanish, or Italian work for you as the tour language; Arabic is also offered. German is not listed.
