At the Gate: Opening Hours, Card Payment, and Electric Shuttle
The main entrance is the Great Gate on the desert road between Cairo and Fayoum; it lies in the southwest and has replaced the old gate at Mena House. The Sphinx Gate remains open but has no ticket office. According to the official website, the site is open from 8 am to 4 pm; an older source states 7 am to 5 pm. The ticket office closes one hour before the gate closes. Payment at the ticket office is by card only, not cash. Private vehicles have not been allowed on the plateau since 2025.
