At the Gate: Card Payment, Early Ticket Office Closure, Shuttle Instead of Private Cars
Since 2025, the Great Gate on the desert road from Cairo to Fayoum has been the main entrance to the plateau. The former gate at Mena House has been replaced; the Sphinx Gate is open but has no ticket counter. Payment is exclusively by card; the counter does not accept cash. The ticket counter closes one hour before the site closes. The official website lists opening hours as 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; a second official version from 2020 lists 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Private vehicles are not allowed on the plateau. Visitors ride the electric shuttle, which is included in the site ticket.
